Yes, go pick on someone your own size, meaning, a full-sized Dachshund (Or one of those full-sized poodles. They scare the living be-jesus out of me).

You're missing the point. This guy has nothing against dogs being killed on screen, he just feels that a miniature dachshund was in poor taste and bad film making.

If it had been a Scottish Terrier this guy would have loved the scene and the whole movie. For him it was like casting Ben Kingsly as Gandhi. He's all about the details.

Being a terrible little 19yr college student, this scene stuck out in my mind as being one of the funniest. I understand how one can see this scene as being long or "gruesome" - but I really think if we pick apart a scene like this we need to do the same for others, until we has the opening and final credits. Gratuitous scenes of this nature are really what made the movie for me. Its not a "no holds bar" film like the teen comedies(if that word can be used) that seem to sprout up every year, but it certainly has its scenes that I believe truly make the movie what it is.

PS, just pre-ordered. I can't wait to see it again! The SRQ film fest was way too long ago.

Haven't seen this yet, but I have seen a lot of films in which animals buy the farm. I am a dog lover, too. However, I always find it strange that so many of us, we, the fans of horror can sit through the masses of people getting mamed, dismembered, raped, eaten, you fucking name it.... but when a cute little furry animal bites it, it's just inexcusable.... hah... It's only a movie!

That scene was a standout for me, too, which I imagine was the point. It was so gruelingly, unapologetically long (like a lot of scenes) that it felt like an inside joke. (Am I wrong in guessing that the creative team behind this scene found the gratuitous length really funny?) Cut the scene in half and it would still clearly get the point across while remaining darkly humorous.

This scene was also the turning point for me when I realized that the tone of the movie was going to be over the top ridiculous throughout. Despite the fact that a mini doxie (perhaps THE cutest thing in the world) was tortuously killed, I still wouldn't call it classless or petty. Just way too long to focus on something that isn't really advancing plot or character.
